WHO WE ARE - Atlantic Cultivation & Atlantic Cannabis (ACL)

Atlantic Cultivation is a premium Canadian cannabis cultivator located in St. John's, NL. We offer a diverse range of products available to consumers in the recreational cannabis market. Years have been spent selecting the most unique phenotypes that few have yet to have the pleasure of experiencing. Additionally, Atlantic Cultivation has been contracted to cultivate and bring to market the world-famous Cookies Brand. Those who know, know!

Atlantic Cultivation operates a world class, state-of the-art, indoor cannabis production facility where we cultivate cannabis using top feed drip hydroponics in rockwool. Additionally, we've obtained 10 Cannabis Retail Licenses from the NLC and currently have 7 stores operating across NL. Those stores are Atlantic Cannabis and are located in St. John's, Goulds, Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, and Corner Brook.

Commercial Manager Role Description

The Commercial Manager reports to the CEO and is accountable for the growth and profitability of the retail business (seven stores) and the ACL brands on sale across Newfoundland and Labrador (NL). The commercial manager collaborates with the other leaders to implement the organizational strategy. As the leader of the retail organization, the commercial manager oversees and stewards the store managers and their teams. As the key point of contact for the ACL brands in the provincial market, the commercial manager develops and maintains the critical commercial relationships that will enable the ACL brands to grow in the Licenced Cannabis Retailers (LCRs) outside our own Atlantic Cannabis network.

Responsibilities

1. Senior Team member / Board reporting

  • Ultimately accountable for ensuring profitability of the retail organization
  • Elevate retail issues to the leadership team and board for discussion and resolution
    • Send weekly sales report to the board
    • Create and present monthly retail analysis for the board
  • Creation of the demand assumptions for our financial model
    • Coordinate with finance to ensure alignment of demand assumptions with the rest of the model

2. Operational Responsibilities

  • Day to day coordination with operations team on inventory, store deliveries, supply / demand balancing
  • Organise and deliver product drops to stores
  • Coordinate product launches
  • Coordinate store maintenance / repair needs with ACL maintenance team

3. Retail Team leadership

  • Work in conjunction with HR to recruit and maintain an effective team of retail store managers
  • Providing leadership and direction to enable the store managers to succeed
  • Conducting performance meetings with retail managers
  • Assisting store managers (and working in coordination with HR) in recruitment, training, and performance management of their teams including conducting interviews, performance improvement meetings and termination meetings
  • Cascading information and performance indicators to retail teams to allow them to optimise store operations
  • Facilitate / provide training to retail teams on essential skills, new policies etc.
  • Organise quarterly town hall meetings to share corporate information with the retail teams
  • Assist Store Managers with resolving customer concerns
  • Develop and maintain relationships with LPs to grow the merchandising and data sales channel
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers (LPs, accessories, etc.)
  • Familiarity with the systems and technical infrastructure of store operations (Dutchie, Merco, Payfacto, security systems, etc.)
  • Point of escalation for security and emergency incidents
  • Plan and execute new store developments

4. ACL Brand Development / Sales

  • Develop relationships with the LCR cannabis buyers in NL to promote ACL brands
  • Plan and purchase appropriate apparel to support ACL brands
  • Store and distribute ACL brand apparel to stores other LCRS and influencers
  • Develop relationships with cannabis influencers to encourage them to consume and promote ACL brands

  • Financial & Analytical Skills - The CM must understand financial reporting and modelling techniques and be able to analyze data to optimise performance and profitability.
  • Project Management, Coordination, & Time Management Abilities - The CM will participate in, and sometimes lead, large and complex projects under stringent timelines requiring impeccable coordination and negotiation abilities.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills - The CM will be tasked with complex problems where the solution(s) must satisfy multiple stakeholders, therefore, being an effective problem solver capable of critical thinking is essential to this role.

Qualification

A diverse combination of education and experience will be considered for this role; however, the ideal candidate would have:

  • Undergraduate degree in business / finance / marketing
  • At least two years retail leadership experience - cannabis specific retail leadership would be an asset
  • A valid driver's license and reliable vehicle is required for this role as frequent travel is required
  • Able to pass a Criminal Record Check (done by the Company upon an offer of employment)
